Pete Villecco has been the Head Coach of the Holy Family Tigers the past nine seasons. Hired in May 2010, the Broomfield native (via New Rochelle, NY), has been familiar with the culture of Holy Family for quite some time despite never having worn the purple and gold himself. Villecco, is not an alumni of Holy Family, but he is the next best thing. Villecco has three siblings who graduated from Holy Family, they helped him get acquainted with the tight knit Catholic school. Entering his ninth season as the Head Coach of the Tigers with a record of 141-60 at Holy Family and has an overall record of 154-87 as a Head Coach.

In 2015-16, the Tigers finished 17-8 and were Co-Champs of the Tri-Valley League. This was the second year in a row where the Tigers finished on top of the competitive Tri-Valley League. The Tigers defeated Ft. Morgan before falling to Valor Christian 53-37 in the Sweet 16 of the 4A State Tournament.

In the 2014-15 season, the Tigers made the jump from 3A to 4A and they more than held their own in the bigger classification. HF went 20-5 and finished as League Champs in the Tri-Valley League, their first year in the League. The Tigers earned a number one seed heading into the 4A State Tournament. They won 19 of their 21 games in route to a Sweet 16 in their first season in 4A. HF defeated Elizabeth in the first round of the state playoffs before losing to always tough Pueblo South.

In 2013-14, the Tigers finished their “magical season” 25-2 and 3A State Champions. The first state championship for Boy’s Basketball at Holy Family since 1998. Along the way the Tigers started the season 17-0, beat Broomfield HS for the first time, finished 7-1 in Metro League play and won the ever tough Metro League while earning the number two seed overall in the 3A State Tournament. HF beat Sterling and Centuari in the first two rounds to earn their 3rd Great 8 appearance in a row, held at Clune Arena at the Air Force Academy. The Tigers beat Brush and Colorado Springs Christian School to get to the State Championship game where they faced Metro League foe Colorado Academy. The Tigers defeated Colorado Academy 53-52 to win the 2014 3A State Championship. Senior David Sommers was named 3A Player of the Year. Juniors Luke Golter, Austin Brown and Sophomore Chris Helbig all earned All-Conference honors as well.

In 2012-13, the Tigers improved from the previous season to 20-6 and 7-1 in Metro League play. The HF Tigers finished 2nd in league and made a return trip to Moby Arena and the State Quarterfinals in 2013. After defeating Buena Vista and Manitou Springs in the 3A state playoffs the Tigers fell short to the Eaton Reds in the Great 8.

In 2011- 12, year two for Villecco, the tigers saw a lot of growth. After finishing 4th in the Metro League and qualifying for the 3A State Tournament, the Tigers beat Classical Academy in the first round and host Aspen High School to go the Great 8 at Moby Arena at CSU for the first time since 2003. There the Tigers knocked off the 24-0 Colorado Springs Christian Lions, 61-41, highlighting a tremendous playoff run and the first Final Four appearance for Holy Family in 14 years. The 2011-12 season ended in a 3 point loss to Kent Denver. The Tigers finished 16-11, however this was the start of the program turning the corner.

During the 2010-11 season, Coach Villecco’s first season at Holy Family, the Tigers finished 7-14, playing in one of the toughest leagues in all of 3A.

Prior to Holy Family, Coach Villecco had a successful run at neighboring Broomfield High School as the JV coach for the Eagles from 2007-2010. The Eagles made one Final Four trip and two Elite 8 trips over these three seasons. During his time at Broomfield, Villecco had the opportunity to coach under Kevin Boley (Legend High School) and current BHS coach, Terrence Dunn. Before Broomfield, Coach Villecco was a Varsity Assistant at Brighton High School for Coach Dan Lliteras from 2005-06. During these two seasons the Bulldogs won 36 games and made two consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in the 5A State Tournament. From 2005-2008, Coach Villecco was a member of the Colorado Chaos coaching staff. This is one of the elite club programs in the Rocky Mountain Region. During his three years with the Chaos, he coached the top 15 and 16 year olds throughout the area. Prior to his arrival at Brighton High School, Coach Villecco spent two seasons in Southeast Colorado as the coach of the La Junta Tigers in the Tri-Peaks League. He was hired in 2004. This was his first opportunity to run his own program. Villecco gained valuable experience and learned a lot in his time as the Head Coach at La Junta High School. The Tigers won 13 games in Villecco’s two seasons in La Junta. Coach Villecco got his start in coaching right out of High School as a student assistant at Adams State College for Coach Larry Mortensen. Villecco spent several years in the San Luis Valley, working for three programs as he finished school and entered the teaching world. He was a student assistant for the Grizzlies from 1996-2001. After spending five seasons experiencing RMAC basketball, he became the JV coach for Coach Russ Caton (current Head Coach of Adams State University) at Alamosa High School while he was the Graduate Assistant at Adams State College in 2001. After one season coaching the JV with Alamosa High School, Villecco moved on to Centauri High School (La Jara, CO) in the Inter-Mountain League. From 2002-04, Villecco was an assistant coach for Coach Larry Joe Hunt. During this time, the Falcons made two trips to the 3A State Tournament.

Villecco and his wife Taren have been married for eight years and have three children: Pierce (7) ,Gianna (3) and Trae (7 months). Villecco is also the Elementary PE teacher at Aspen Creek K-8 in Broomfield.
